Operation Bugle Boy

During this year's Operation Bugle Boy we will show the movie The Outpost about a small unit of 54 U.S. soldiers alone at the remote Combat Outpost Keating in Afghanistan, battling to defend against an overwhelming coordinated attack of nearly 400 Taliban fighters. Based on actual events, The Battle of Kamdesh, as it becomes known, took place on October 3, 2009 - one of the bloodiest engagements of the nearly 20-year Afghan War.

Located at the bottom of a geographic fishbowl, Combat Outpost Keating was a magnet for attack. This battel would define the lives of the unit (suffering 60% casualties) who fought there and earned its place int he annuals of U.S. military history. Beyond the reminder of a strategic blunder that failed to protect the soldiers from foreseeable danger, it is an enduring monument to the valor of the American Warrior. These men did not break, fighting with ferocity and courage that turned a certain defeat into a costly, but undeniable, victory.

This story stands as a profound example of what American soldiers can endure, and achieve, when everything is on the line.
