Thursday Night Live Takes a Break in 2025 to Celebrate Jefferson City’s Bicentennial in a Big Way
Big changes are coming to Downtown Jefferson City’s event lineup in 2025 as all Jeffersonians prepare for an unforgettable celebration of Jefferson City’s 200th birthday. Downtown Jefferson City, Inc. is shifting its focus to making the bicentennial a year to remember.
This means Thursday Night Live (TNL) will take a one-year hiatus in 2025 to allow for the introduction of a new, day-long music and entertainment festival as part of the city’s bicentennial festivities. But don’t worry—Thursday Night Live (or a variation there of) will return in 2026 with a fresh approach and the same great energy that has made it a favorite event for locals and visitors alike.
A Year to Celebrate Jefferson City’s 200th Birthday
"Our efforts in 2025 are focused on celebrating the bicentennial of Jefferson City throughout the year," said Cara Stark, President of Downtown Jefferson City, Inc. "This is a milestone moment for our community, and we want to take this opportunity to create something truly special for our neighbors and visitors."
To mark this historic occasion, Downtown Jefferson City, Inc. will introduce a new, full-day festival featuring live music, entertainment, and activities for all ages. This special event will highlight our city’s history, culture, and community spirit while bringing people together to celebrate Jefferson City’s past, present, and future.
Live Music and Entertainment Will Continue in Downtown JCMO
Just because TNL is on pause doesn’t mean the music will stop. Downtown Jefferson City is home to a vibrant and growing entertainment scene, and in 2025, we’ll continue to support and promote the many live music and entertainment opportunities happening throughout the Downtown area.
"We encourage everyone to explore the incredible variety of events taking place across Downtown JCMO," Stark said. "We’re committed to promoting these opportunities and offering features to help our neighbors and visitors enjoy everything Downtown has to offer."
From live music at local venues to outdoor performances and community gatherings, Downtown will remain the place to be for entertainment in 2025.
A Community-Led Approach to Event Planning
The shift in events and programming for 2025 is part of a collaborative effort, with a volunteer committee forming of bar owners, Downtown investors and employees, and members-at-large from the Capital City area helping oversee event planning and promotions. If you haven't been tapped for a role yet, you will or we invite you to use (this volunteer form.)
"Our mission is to promote, enhance, and advocate for a thriving Downtown community," Stark explained. "Every decision we make—including pausing TNL for one year and introducing new events—is rooted in our commitment to supporting a strong and vibrant Downtown."
Looking Ahead to 2026 and Beyond
The return of Thursday Night Live in 2026 (or a variation thereof) will be a chance to reimagine and refresh the event, ensuring it continues to bring exciting entertainment and great experiences to Downtown Jefferson City for years to come.
In the meantime, Downtown Jefferson City, Inc. will remain dedicated to bringing engaging events and experiences to the community, focused around an unforgettable bicentennial year in 2025.
